The Shelter manager should have experience working with disadvantaged populations, crisis situations and managing other people. Needs to have experience working with victims of domestic violence. This is an ON-SITE MANAGERS POSITION. Part of the compensation for this position is a Manager's apartment. This includes a 1 bedroom, living room, bath, and kitchen. Washer, dryer. Manager will need to provide case management services to shelter clients. However, the manager typically is responsible for ensuring that client's needs and goals are met by connecting clients with services directly or supervising those who do. The manager must live at the shelter in the provided Apartment. The manager also ensures that the shelter runs smoothly. The manager is responsible for seeing that the shelter is adequately stocked with food, medicine and cleaning supplies. The manager also creates schedules for cooking, cleaning, group therapy and recreational events. The shelter manager must be familiar with community social services and use them to help clients become independent. Ideally, the manager will form liaisons with other agencies, developing strong working relationships. In addition, shelter managers must know how to create documents, memos, spread sheets. manager must present information clearly and effectively. Shelter manager also should be prepared to pass a background check and take a TB (tuberculosis) test before employment. Shelter manager should have excellent written and spoken communication skills, as they will be communicating with individuals in crisis, shelter staff and the community at large. The managers also must have superior problem solving skills, as people’s lives may depend on the decisions they make. The manager is responsible for the safe operation of the shelter on a daily basis and needs to see that repairs are made promptly. Good repair skills would be a big plus. The Shelter operates Helping Hands Thrift Store and the manager will be required to assist at the store as needed. The managers needs to have a valid state driver’s license, as they may need to drive clients to work or appointments and make emergency pickups at the hospital.
